The Summer of Beautiful Toes

Onychomycosis

on·y·cho·my·co·sis
Nope, any way you say it, nail fungus doesn’t sound pretty. And it certainly doesn’t look pretty. Fungus is one of those words that immediately evokes a feeling of disgust, and for many people, feelings of embarrassment. Because the truth is, onychomycosis, or fungal infection of the nail, is actually incredibly common. It can be caused by heavy foot perspiration, poor shoe/sock ventilation, or by walking barefoot in damp areas such as a gym or locker room. As we inch closer to the dog days of summer, your chances of getting nail fungus go up, and this is the exact time when want pretty feet the most.

Toes that you are proud to show off

Nothing ruins a good pair of shoes faster than yellow or brittle toenails.

A permanent solution

Until now, the only solutions for toenail fungus were to surgically remove the nail; apply topical treatments, which have a poor success rate; or more recently, prescription medications, which have many potentially dangerous side effects.  Frustrated patients have spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars with no results. The podiatry team at Piedmont Orthopaedic Complex is now offering an in-office, painless procedure in which a laser is used to selectively heat and destroy the fungus while sparing the healthy surrounding tissue. The procedure is clinically-proven and requires no downtime from regular activities.
